Recent advances on π-conjugated polymers as active elements in high performance organic field-effect transistors

As high-performance organic semiconductors, π-conjugated polymers have attracted much attention due to their charming advantages including low-cost, solution processability, mechanical flexibility, and tunable optoelectronic properties. During the past several decades, great advances been made in polymers-based OFETs with p-type, n-type or even ambipolar characterics. Through chemical modification alignment optimization, lots of conjugated exhibited superior mobilities, some mobilities are larger than 10 cm2·V−1·s−1 OFETs, which makes them very promising for applications electronic devices. This review describes recent progress high performance used from aspects molecular design assembly strategy. Furthermore, current challenges outlook development also mentioned.

A thiophene-fused polycyclic azaborine skeleton was employed into conjugated polymers for organic field-effect transistors for the first time. Two polythiophene-type polymers were developed, which exhibited low HOMO levels and strong intermolecular interactions, leading to a hole mobility of up to 0.38 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1).
